I always say I won’t listen to Christmas music until Thanksgiving dinner… and I stick to it… for the most part. Except for that rare occasion in the car when there’s nobody else to hear it. Or when I’m home alone and I can sneak a few songs in. That – plus – I have to admit I will watch the movie “White Christmas” any day of the year!
Today however certainly tested my ability to stay in the holiday spirit. On the to-do list: grocery shopping, post office & work. I had all my coupons organized and ready to go, a list of strategy prepared & my itinerary set. The couponing has proven to be a nice outlet for my need to compulsively plan and organize + I’ve been saving (on average) 30% – 50% on our monthly groceries!
To summarize: Made it through the first stop only to realize my wallet was at home on the table. Another 40 min back & forth in the car. Finished with 2 of 3 grocery stores and got stuck on the wrong side of the train tracks for a cool 25 minutes as a freight train inched by. Waited in line on my lunch for 70 minutes to mail packages & cards. Computers crashed & the packages still aren’t in the mail! Worked until 10:30pm. Still can’t unwind!
Somehow, I’m quite happy! Christmas shopping is done. Packages can wait to be mailed until tomorrow. I have 2 full days to spend with my family next weekend and life is good. Patience was tested and Scrooge &/or the Grinch (take your pick!) were successfully kept at bay.
How do you handle the chaos that can be quick to take over the holidays?
